The Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA) cordially invites you to a webinar on Robotics & AI jointly organised by the Malaysian Autonomous Intelligence & Robotics Association (MyAIRA), the Expertise Resource Association (ERA) and the Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) in association with SHRDC.

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics have become an increasing presence in our daily life. With industrialisation, robots have played an important role across many sectors, improving efficiency and productivity. Although still under development, AI, algorithms and technological applications, combined with proper implementation of ethics, diversity and inclusive design have given rise to an explosion of applications in many areas and into new realms. Now, the AI and robotics fields are working unanimously to provide advanced solutions that can benefit the general public and businesses significantly. This webinar will help participants learn about AI & Robotics.

A panel discussion will be moderated by Ms Hanniz Lam, Communications Director, MyAIRA.

A brief on the speakers are as follows:

  1. 1. Prof. Ts. Dr. Sim Yee Wai, Dean of Computing and Engineering at Quest International University (QIU) will speak on the topic of What is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its Applications in Daily Life. From personal assistants in smartphones to self-driving cars, AI is progressing rapidly over the recent years. While science fiction often portrays AI as robots with human-like characteristics, AI can encompass anything from Google’s AlphaGo (a computer program that plays the board game Go) to autonomous robots on the factory floors. Nowadays, the applications of AI are mainly in the areas of performing narrow tasks, such as facial recognition or forecasting stock prices. However, the long-term goal of AI research is to create General AI which would have a self-aware consciousness that has the ability to solve problems, learn, and plan for the future. Dr Sim will explain what is AI and how the technology is being applied in various scenarios. Like it or not, the wave of AI is unstoppable. So, we need to embrace it with open arms, and work alongside it to create a brighter and better future.

  2. 2. Mr Oliver Tian is the Honorary Advisor at Asia Pacific Assistive Robotics Association (APARA) and the founder of Oliver Tian Associates based in Singapore. Central to leveraging AI and Robotics technologies to augment human capacity is the need to have the skills to understand and supervise the human-machine combination. The aim is not to compete with the capabilities of AI and Robotics but knowing how to differentiate from them. The best technology ever, if not usable by human beings, will become the worst of technology. Mr Oliver Tan will elaborate on some of the critical skills of the future which will help technology users to understand, explore and leverage augment human capabilities and potential to the better.
  3. 3. Mr Soo Ho Hock MENG, Avant Garde Centre of Excellence Sdn Bhd will touch on the physical aspect of robots more details coming soon!

  4. 4. Ts. Dr. Chua Wen-Shyan, Head of Malaysian Smart Factory 4.0, Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) more details coming soon!
